600 Words...2,000 to Go

Tuesday, 30 October 2007

Why is it so easy to post, and yet so very hard to write 2,000 more words for my history essay! Oh Boy! It is due on Friday so the posts might be scarce until then, but I will leave you with my newest zipper dress obsession.
Sorry for the poor quality photo, there was no daylight,

Bookstores and one mitten.

One mitten is almost complete! Yes!

I'm on my way to school and in a rush, so this will be short. One of my favorite magazine articles ever was published in Nylon years ago, and about the Shakespeare and Company Bookstore in Paris. One day I would love to visit! It even has its own Flickr group!

Can mittens make me Swedish?

Sunday, 28 October 2007

As promised these are pictures of the progress I've been making with the mittens. They are olive green and off-white. I have to say I am pretty impressed with the results so far. I'm not using a pattern, just counting the stitches in the picture. The more I knit them, the more I feel like I am fulfilling my love of Scandinavian culture... now just to look as cute as the Moderniteter girls....
For the rest of the day I will be researching for a paper due next Friday! Yikes!
Lately, as one of my numerous distractions from papers, I've been checking the blog of The Cherry Blossom Girl.
She has such a cute style and takes great photos:

Mittens, Craft sales, and Serena Vanderwoodsen...

Saturday, 27 October 2007

This is the mitten I agreed I would replicate for a friend, who bought from a Finnish lady during her exchange year there. Since I am obsessed with everything Scandinavian I instantly agreed! I will try to post progress pictures tomorrow.

Ok, so it is probably a really bad thing that I can't even keep a goal for one day. Eep! In my defense I've been keeping really busy in the real world. On Friday night I went to see The Kingdom, really good, but a little too intense for me. I do not do well with realistic violence, and situations of war on film. Especially since, this is probably quite near reality in the Middle East right now. What I did really like about the film, is they didn't try to make the issue solely black and white (Good Westerners, against Evil Muslims), instead it was quite a gray area.

This morning was the biggest craft sale of the season, which was pretty exciting. There unfortunately didn't seem to be a lot of stylish knitted or sewn items, so I ended up with a lot of baked goods, and bathbombs that look like cupcakes.

So I am completely enamored with Serena Vanderwoodsen's outfit from the Gossip Girl premiere.... yes I watch it... I love the bright gold sequin dress dressed down with black tights, a black scarf, and a jean jacket.
I think I will use this fabric, from this store, to make this dress, and possibly a hoodie like this one, from this pattern. If I ever get the time!

I've been inspired by Jenny to attempt to post everyday until the end of November. It is quite a lofty goal considering the papers I have to write during this time, but it will be my break from them. Today I took my camera with me to work to photograph this cute diner, that advertises with a white board in an effort to take more pictures.. unfortunately I can't share them with you yet because I work with a film SLR.
I received the most wonderful compliment today from a professor would told me she thought I was a very talented writer. It is compliments like that, from people whom I admire that really make my day.
The most exciting news however came in an email from my friend Janet, who's website is finally up and running. Janet and I met during the summer I studied styling at Ryerson University in Toronto. (They have the best fashion design program in Canada, and only 4 year university degree) We were staying in the same dorms, and one night we both stumbled out of our rooms bawling over the second season finale of Grey's Anatomy.

My own BBW Dress in action

In the anticipation of going to Minneapolis on my school break I have been creating tons of visual shopping lists in my journal. It is beginning to look like I might go broke very quickly.
Sorry for the bad quality photos, I should have used flash. Also if you need to know where I found a picture just ask and I will track it down!Girl in handmade BBW, AveClove

Scarf Love

Monday, 8 October 2007

After seeing an abundance of pretty girls in scarfs, I decided I needed one pronto! That and the weather here as taken a bitter turn... I found a really awesome (men's) pattern from Patons (I added fringe) that requires two colors, and every side is knit twice. I chose a grey skein of yarn from a local Alpaca (So soft, and sustainable) and a white ball of the new Bernat Alpaca Blend. Now I can be a pretty girl in a scarf, too!
