The title of this post comes from a beautiful article in Kinfolk Volume Three by David Winward. David writes about a philosophy for creating a home that is near and dear to my heart. It simply involves filling your living space with the works of friends. I've been lucky to receive many lovely handmade gifts for the place that J and I call home, including beautiful ceramics and napkins from my friend Alison.

The latest edition to our home is a beautiful portrait of our cats, Cleo and Hoppy. I commissioned this portrait from Caitlyn Murphy, a friend of mine since my early days in Toronto (and way before that as online friends). Caitlyn said that she was inspired by folk art while completing this piece, and it turned out even more beautiful than I imagined.

In my experience, when commissioning works of art (paintings, bouquets, clothing) it is best to find an artist who's body of work you admire. I love everything Caitlyn creates - especially her baseball series - so I knew that however she envisioned the cats would blow me away.
