Joe Fresh for Fall

Tuesday, 29 July 2008

I don't know what it is about the end of July that always makes me instantly look forward to fall. It's not that I want summer to end, au contraire! I detest cold weather! But, I love fall clothing. I love the dark rich colors, and the cozy layers. The line which I have been anticipating the most is from Joe Fresh. Joe Fresh is carried by Superstore, Loblaws, and Select stores in Canada... which happen to be grocery stores...
Joe is named after its head designer Joseph Mimran who is behind Club Monaco as well. The fabrics tend to be natural mostly cotton, silk, and linen which is quite amazing for a low priced line! For the first time trendy yet affordable clothing has been available to a large Canadian audience, and I just love it!! While working at the international camp my friends and I convinced many Americans to make a trip up to Canada to check out Joe. Usually it is us Canadians making the trip down south for great clothing!
With a little internet searching I came across the Fall 2008 catalog, enjoy!
I am excited for the military jacket, high-waisted skirt, wellies, gloves, and scarfs!

Summer Flies By...

Tuesday, 15 July 2008

I hope everyone is enjoying their summers!
My week working at camp was fantastic, my campers were so great. However, I definitely have a intensified appreciation for teachers and all that they do. Being responsible for thirty kids is as tough as it is rewarding. The camp was also really neat because it had both American and Canadian campers so I learned about the little things we do quite differently. For example, Americans do not have Ketchup chips, 30 degrees outside means a very cold day to an American, and Canadians will tell you to arrive "for" twelve o'clock, not "at" twelve, not to mention "Where is the washroom?" got me a few funny looks.
Funny how close we live to each other and yet we still have our own uniqueness.
This week is already flying by and next Saturday I'm going back to camp.
In the meantime I am listening to this, brushing up on my marketing skills, wishing I could do this, and most of all wishing that this jacket wasn't already sold out in medium/large.

Blueberry Muffins.. Yum!

Friday, 4 July 2008

Tomorrow afternoon I'm off to work at a camp for a week and I decided I wouldn't leave the house empty handed. I made these delicious blueberry muffins with fresh blueberries on Canada Day (July 1) for a breakfast party with some friends. The batch made 24 and 7 people ate them all in one hour so I decided they were a hit! Since they turned out so well, I thought they would be the perfect baking to bring along.
I used the Simply Recipes, recipe and instead of using plain yogurt I used the Activa fat-free vanilla that was already in the fridge. I haven't made them with plain yogurt so I'm not sure if using the vanilla yogurt was the key but I'm not going to try my luck.
Ps. I hope my fellow Canadians had a great Canada Day, and Happy 4th of July for my American friends!

Wine and Bread

The Bread and Wine Bag by Rebecca Minkoff

I really think I should change my lifestyle to revolve around the proper use of this bag. I have a huge obesession with French and European culture... or what I think is French and European culture; slow food, leisure, elegance in everyday, but I haven't quite been able to achieve that goal with my North American lifestyle. On the bright side, I have been able to use my French quite frequently at work, which always serves to make me feel a little closer to my goal.
Any tips for adopting European culture into a fast-paced North American schedule?
Here is a cute post from Ashley about an elegant lady on a train.
